I had 9 chicks I bought in april... all turned out to be roos. :-(
So sunday I found someone with some young hens for sale. We got two. Then traded all of our roos but one for more babies. :-)

We did free range our roos all day, and then lock them up at night.

Since getting the two new girls, I have not let my roo out, and have had the girls locked up with him.

I want to let the three of them out, my roo (Fred) knows his home and where he sleeps ;-)
How long will it take the new girls to know, or will they follow Fred ???

Should I keep them locked up longer to know this is home now???

Thanks for any advice!

so how are the Hen doing with the Rooster? Is he calling the hen whenever he finds any goodies inside the run? I guess what I'm trying to find out if the Hen are Rooster are friends :)

In that case, they will follow him to the Coop. (At least from what I have observed). You could watch out the first couple of nights perhaps.

I have not noticed him calling to them at all, but every night they are all roosted almost curled up together. ;-)

it takes about three days for a chicken to call their new place home, especially if that's where the food is. Since they are all friends it's safe to let them out now.
