How long before you count it as a "dud"...please reply!

My first chickie hatched. 1 sort of fertilized, but non viable egg disposed of a couple days ago. 1 egg with formed, but dead chickie tossed out of the nest, cold today.

1 egg still under her, NOT kicked out, with one hatched chickie.

When should I give up on the one still under her if it doesn't hatch soon?

Day 25. For a broody that is. Incubating, I toss the clears on day 10 and quitters at lockdown.

Wow good question. How long has she been setting? Day 21etc... If she finally walks away from it then you'll know for sure it probly isn't going to hatch.

With me, I'd count on the broody hen to tell me if one is a dud or not. . . They often know. Otherwise, yes, day 25 is official call-it-quits day.

Today was day 21 and one egg hatched from the same brood. Momma is still sitting on it, so that's why I think there's still a chance for it. She kicked the other duds out already.
