We were given a mature hen, three - four years old, and right after she came to us she started molting. It looks to me like most of her molting is done. She has lost and regained her hackle feathers, tail feathers, some body feathers, and is now regaining the longest feathers on her wings. Now she is losing some very soft fluffy feathers (I don't think butt fluff more like belly feathers or from some other spot like that). Her comb is still pale and she hasn't lain any eggs for almost 8 weeks. She was in poor nutritional health when we got her but now she has her shiny new feathers and can run as fast and easily as the youngest pullets. Could it just be that she has come to the end of her laying days or can it take longer for some to make it through the molt and start laying again? Oh, I almost for got she is either an EE or Ameracauna. I don't know how to tell the difference.
