I can only check my chickens' coop twice a day, in the morning and at night. So there is a long time period that my chickens may have to lay eggs. So how long can the eggs stay in the coop before i collect them to put them in the fridge? Im a newbie chicken owner, so any egg tips in general would be appreciated!!!!!

Anyone? I'm scared to eat my eggs (my hens just started laying so i have gotten two so far) without knowing this information because I don't want to eat a bad egg!!!

Just kidding. From what I've read there's not a problem at all, until you wash them. Then you need to get them in the fridge. However, unless your chickens are much different than mine, the eggs look pristine coming out of the nest. I don't wash. Just put them in the fridge when I get around to it, and enjoy. I've been going at it like that for two weeks, eating eggs that have been in the nest for hours, and I haven't turned green yet. I wouldn't want to get a cholesterol check right now, given my new egg consumption rate, but mine is generally in good shape anyway.

If you put the egg in a cup or bowl of water and it floats, it's bad. I leave mine all day in the nest and have never had a bad one.
