IS THAT MY HEN DIED AFTER SHE LAYED 4 EGGS THAT SHOULD BE FERTILIZED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW LONG DO THEY LAST BECAUSE I AM WATING FOR MY OTHER HEN TO START LAYING SO THAT I CAN PUT THOSE EGGS IN HER NEST

I had three eggs that i had to leave for 29 days because of no space in the incubator, out of the three two hatched one had to be taken out at one week because it didnt develop when i candled it i noticed it was because of a small crack in the egg which i didnt notice when i put them in.

I was worried to and with all my research i found that the general rule is 30 days but eggs are amazing and you never know what to expect!! Store them round end up. And of course the earlier you get them in the better. My two had to be assisted a bit as they hatched at the wrong end but both are still alive and well seven months on. Hope this helps good luck :)

THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP

I had just happened on this. We have been wondering how everyone gets all the eggs. Now I understand-- I have never seen anything on how long you can store eggs that are fertilized. Thank you for the info. Yes I understand all of them may not hatch - and we took one egg and it was the oldest and yes it was fertile--we opened it and seen the ring. we are waiting for more eggs now --- got 5 to go. We are going to candle all of the ones we have tonight and check everything out. We are building a incubator and a brooder ourselves. Wish us luck in our indevor. We have 2 hens and one is on 11 eggs for the last 17 days -- the 18th they should hatch. Will keep 2 hens and go to a swip swap with the rest.

I save eggs for 14 days 'til I put a batch in the incubator (since my girls aren't laying well yet). So far, I've have near 70-75% hatch rate. Plus, I have been dealing with really cold temps as well...!
