How long do chickens live for?(what the oldest chicken you've had?)

I was wondering how long do chickens live for? Becouse I herd that chickens only live for less than 5 years is this true?

My Silver Laced Polish was born February 22, 1995 and died September 25, 2008. About 13 years and seven months. Still miss her.

White Crested Black Polish hen born June 16, 1983 and died March 16, 1996. Almost 13.

Well thats pritty old from what I heer. My B-day is sep24. It seems that they were really healthy chickens to live for so long!

I have a Buff Orpington, a Black Wyandote and a GLW rooster that are all 10 years old this year. They seem to be in perfect health. Of course they are all spoiled beyond belief...LOL

If protected from predators a chicken will live 8-10 years or more. Some have lived 15. They will only lay well for about 4 though which makes a chicken's usual lifespan 5 years or less.
