How long do chickens molt for and what does it look like?

It can for some giving yogurt, scrambled eggs and oatmeal can all help
I give my birds yogurt about once per month. I sell eggs and if I have too many I scramble up 4 dozen or so and give them back to the chickens too. Little buggers are so spoiled! Vitamins in their water, dried mealworms for treats. Spoiled!

My hens Patsy and Lilly are molting. Patsy started first and she has hard molts. Parts of her will be bald as the process goes on. She is standing in this photo with Lilly laying right next to the camera. All of the feathers strewn about are a sure that the molt is on. It happens this time every year.

First they stop laying and then the feathers show up. It seems like it takes a month or so until it's over I had a leghorn who molted so gently you never knew it was occurring. Her feathers just went from yellowish to bright white.

It takes about two or three weeks for my birds. They look like porcupines almost, and real scrawny and sometimes are missing whole patches of feathers. There are usually tons of feathers littering the chicken yard, scaring me that something took my bird! Feathers are almost all protein, so giving them protein will help. There are special ‘molting season shakes’ you can make them with veggies and seeds.

Just last week I found many feathers from my Isa Brown hen "Big Bird" scattered all over the front yard! I thought for sure she was gone, but she just came walking around the corner, almost featherless from a hard molt but fine
