How long do chicks stay on chick mash?

Our chicks are just over a month old and have been on chick mash. Is it time to change them up to crumbles? At what point do they make a real shift in the type of food (developer?). The person at the feed store told me 12 weeks / 12 weeks / 12 weeks -- is that what you all do? Many thanks

Starter/grower until they start to lay, 18-26 week depending on the breed.

I use chick starter crumbles with my chicks from day one. Did the same thing last year with no problems. I have never used chick mash.
