I was hoping to hear from some people who have raised Marans - Black Copper & Wheaton....how long do they lay before it starts to slow down? Thanks!!

I don't know either .. *wink* .. but I'd be interested to find out..

I pickup up my Marans from a breeder in Dallas. She had a few that were older (5 -8) years and still laying. We will see if the offspring are just as hearty.

My roo who is still growing - Golden Comet at about 4 months old and who has been fairly amiable, tried to dance around me this morning when I let him and his gals out to free range - when I jumped and exclaimed, he puffed up like he was going to peck me - he didn't, but I sure don't want a rooster thats so quick on the draw - any ideas on how to discourage that behavior? I have two hens currently and am looking for a fourth - don't know if that factors into his thinking, but I thought I'd mention it.
Thanks!

Some of my cuckoo Marans are 7 years old and still laying. My wheatens are on about 18 months so I can't really say how long they'll keep going yet.

Bump, I'm planning to buy two hens that are 1 1/2 yrs old and wanted to know at what age do Marans stop laying also?

Thanks
JD
