21 days is the incubation period. Give or take a day.
The eggs have to be heated to a sertain temperature before they actually
start incubating, therefore she either has to sit on it for the next 21 days,
or you have to put it in an incubator. RIR Hens arn't bred for being broody,
as others have said. They have wen't broody before, but it's uncommon.
They have to be broody to commit to setting on the eggs for 21 days. So
you better be getting you an incubator and reading up on how to incubate
the eggs properly! It's not recommended to incubate the hen's first egg,
because 'first eggs' are usually small, which results in small chicks.. Though
I HAVE done it before, I'd wait until she gets the hang of laying eggs.
