Finishing up the run on the chicken coop, so my 5-7 week old chicks will be moving outside very soon. I have heard that it is a good idea to restrict them to the coop to give them time to get used to it and realize it is their new home. How long do most of you do that for? A couple of days? A week?

They are mostly feathered out and are completely off heat. They will, of course, have access to food and water inside the coop while they are confined.

As long as the coop has a good amount of space, light and ventilation I'd lock them in a few days. I know a lot of folks say it's unnecessary but I found it to be a good way to adjust them from being in a brooder to being outdoors and it'll buy you a couple extra days to put in any finishing touches needed on the run.

Turn the light off at night they need that dark time also up to week can be helpful then when they start laying they are more inclined to do it in your coop good luck
