how long do you worry about pasting?

That's good advice! They were almost to the point of being crowded but last night I moved them to a bigger brooder I just finished and hopefully they will be more comfortable now- maybe that was a cause for pasting. I read you can remove the stuck on poop with mineral oil so I tried putting a little on a cottonball and sure enough it came right off! I guess that's less stress too if the removal process doesn't go on and on for some difficult sticky stuff. I will try and do more handling- I have been so nervous because they seem so scared but they won't get over that fear otherwise.

Thanks for all the info!

We've been trying to handle them a lot too because I also want them to be very friendly, follow us around, good with the kids, etc. However I was also told by a friend not to scare them right now at a couple of days old. He said just put our hand down in the box, let them walk on it, get curious, but that's it right now. They were freaking out before everytime we put our hands down to pick them up. I don't want the poor things to be so scared that trying to pick them up backfires on me. So your advice is to continue picking up, even though they don't like it right now? I guess I'm afraid if I put them on my lap they will jump off to try to get away! We are using a towel right now for bedding, not shavings. I was planning on using the shavings soon though.
