My broody hen just hatched seven chicks yesterday. I have some Purina Start and Grow that I bought a year ago, it was opened a year ago but it has been stored in my barn and its all dry. Is the feed still good and okay to feed to the new chicks or do I need to buy new chick feed? Thanks.

The vitamins and other nutrients do start to degrade even if kept dry. I would guess it still has some value, but I wouldn't feed it to chicks just staring out. Generally I don't keep feed longer then three months. If I have starter or grower when they are finished growing I will feed it till it is gone to avoid storage and it degrading.

x2 I Agree

X3. Though I don't think it will hurt them the may not be getting the most nutritional value from it. Though who knows how long those bagged feeds are stored before they are sold to us anyway?
