Hi, this may sound a stupid question, but I'm a 100% newbie here,
and everything I know about raising chicks I learned here on your great forum.

My first 5 chicks will hatch in 1 week and I'm preparing the brooder box and lamp.
As for their food, I have an almost full bag of 5 kg chick starter, but it was opened and used in April (for some one elses chicks) and since then kept closed at room temperature.
There's no "best before date" on the plastic bag.
Should I buy a new one?
Thanks for helping me out!

A few months is fine, probably at least 6 months, as long as its kept perfectly dry. Over time, some of the vitamins will break down, but it will only become harmful if it gets damp and starts to mold -- molds produce toxins.

Great, thanks! It has not been damp at all (been in my living room since opened), so I'm glad I don't have to throw 5 kg of good chicken food away.
