To start leaving the nest with them. They all have food and water in the coop and hatch out was the 18th to the overnight hours of the 19th. Some chicks are already popping out from under her to feed and temps have been 60's all day today with a constant drzzvle. The rain should be gone now and we will be 60's for the next 24 hours with a low tomorrow night of 45F.

Is she still sitting on eggs that didn't hatch?
They typically take them out pretty quickly unless she is trying to hatch eggs that didn't hatch already. But she will return to the nest site at night to "roost" with them under her until she is ready to bring them up to the roost when they are old enough.

All eggs have hatched as of the morning of the 20th. I noticed some of the broody assistants eating the egg shells at hatch time about 1/3rd of those remain in the nest area should I consider removing them and toss in a fresh batch of hay in the AM. Tonight id the first night I allowed the broody assistants back into the coop after 2 days in prison. I went in after dark and found 3 "assistants" back with the brooder pullet. I tossed those gals back with the main mass of the silkie huddle and turned my flashlight out so they don't find their way back tonight.

Hope that works for ya Allen. I chase some of my pheasants under the sheltered part of the pen when it's raining at night....turn the flashlight off and walk away, comeback an hour or so later to check on them again, their back in the same spot. :barnie

I'm guessing only time will tell how many jailbirds I pick up tonight. Once the eggs started peeping she attracted a large following of her sisters.
