How long does it take for a egg to hatch?

I have a broody hen that sits in the nestbox morning noon and night! So I was thinking about leting her become a mom! I have never done this before. I have only had chickens for like 8 months now and I am loving them!!!

I know the rooster mates with her every chance he gets. And I read here that she keeps the sperm for up to 30 days so if she is laying her eggs should be fertile. Now for some reason the nestbox she is ALWAYS in is a favorite among all the hens and it is very common for the other hens to go and sit with her in the box (even though there are 3 other boxes) and lay eggs. So I just have to save and mark a few eggs and see what happens I think!

Anything I need to know??????

21 days to hatch eggs.

You may want to do searches on candling eggs. That way, you can see if they are developing.

Thanks, I was checking that out too. I wish I could find someone to buy like 4 or 5 eggs from that were more than likely fertile.
