I have a blue laced Wyandotte who’s sitting on a nest of like 20 eggs for a bunch of different mothers. Two hatched this morning but nothing else yet. How long does it usually take for the other eggs to start hatching? There is a good chance that some of those eggs got added to the pile a week or more later then some of the other ones cause hens just kept sneaking in more eggs on her (or she was taking more for her self. Don’t they usually stop at 8-10 eggs? Why she have 20!?).

On a random unnecessary side note the two chicks that hatched are so cute! One is an Easter egger (dad) x Rhode Island Red (mom) and the other is white silkie (dad) x either Rhode Island Red/blue laced Wyandotte/ or black sex link (mom)

It just depends on when they were laid. My last egg from one clutch hatched this afternoon, and the oldest in that clutch hatched about a week or so ago. But this egg had been laid later on while the clutch was being brooded. Generally if they all start at the same time, they'll hatch within about a day.

And no, I've never met a bird that wouldn't add new eggs to their clutch if given half a chance. Many of my broodies won't start until they're on so many eggs they spill around the edges of the hen slightly.
