The first egg hatched on day 21 and the rest on day 22. Yesterday, I fee wiggling, but I decided to wait until today to see if they pip. Today is day 23 and I decided to crack unhatch and unpip egg on the the top of the airsac, since I thought, that they need help. As I tried to take out some parts of the inner shell membrane, blood came out, so I decided to stop doing it and it it dry out. How long does it take for the inner membrane to be dried out?

My broody hen is incubating her eggs. I decide to do this, because one of my chicks who pip yesterday afternoon died last night or today inside his/her egg. None of the inner shell membrane is teared apart except on the part where the chick pip, and no blood is also found on the inner chick membrane, when I checked it today.

I wouldn't advise to open an unpipped egg, unless it was chirping loudly. When you do though, starting from the air cell end is good. When you see blood, that means stop, and leave it alone. I'm not sure how long it takes for the membrane to dry, but if you do help a pipping egg, break the membrane to give it air.

Sometimes they die before they hatch. They might start pecking inside, and just die. It has happened to me. A good way to tell is by putting the egg in water of the same incubating temp., like 99.5F. If the egg wiggles, it may still be trying to hatch. Another way to tell is this: a dead egg is much harder to warm up, and should feel slightly cooler than the others.

If I did not answer everything you wanted, let me know.

Are you sure that some really naturally after they pip but before they hatch? I should have just removed the inner cell membrane last night, if that was it's problem. There was no blood, not even on the inner cell membrane and the yolk was completely absorb when I break the egg in half this afternoon.

I feel bad about it right now.
