How long does it take to actually hatch?

There are cute little chirps and tiny tapping noises coming from the incubator. It's so cute!!!

How is it going? Did anyone else hatch?

I would love to hear some little chirps & tapping about now. I started into day 21 this afternoon, and so far nada. I only have 2 eggs out of the 7 left -- 3 were clear & 2 were late quitters. In the past I've always had pips at least by this point.

Chickies, come on out!

*Update*
The first chick that hatched didn't make it through the night. We're not sure what happened.

We had three chicks hatch yesterday and one that was almost out but it rolled over and drowned. I was so upset because it was doing great. I left it alone for about ten minutes and came back to see if it was out yet and it was already dead. I was so upset because it was so close to completing its hatch. It already had one foot out when it rolled over.

We had two hatch during the night. We didn't think they were gonna make it. they had stopped pecking and weren't making any noise and were no longer moving so we carefully removed some of the shell to help them out and we put a bowl of very hot water in the corner to increase the humidity so their membranes didn't dry out and then left them for the night. around 3:45am I came down to check on them and they were doing great. They were chirping like crazy.

We had four eggs that didn't hatch but we're gonna give them a couple of days to see if something happens.

Congrats on your chicks, and sorry to hear that you lost a few. It's such a mystery -- I wish I knew & understood better the things that happen to these little ones.

I thought I heard a few chirps from the bator last night but this morning I still don't see any pips. Hard to tell if there is chirping because I have 10 baby chicks from an earlier hatch.

Check the bottom of the eggs, we kept hearing chirps but couldn't figure out which one beacause there was no pips but then I picked one up to move it away from the water bowl we were using for humidity and found that the chick was piping out the bottom of the egg. After that we started checking constantly and so far have only found 2 other upside down hatchers. you have to catch them early or they will die if they try to hatch upside down. One just had the tiniest little crack that we could hardly see so you have to check carefully.

Thanks for the info about upside-down hatchers -- I'm reluctant to open the bator, tho, b/c they say hands off during the hatch.

This is my first time having the hatching eggs in an egg carton (because I have some other eggs in there not due til next week), & I'm wondering if that is causing them to not be able to roll around.

I'm going to post a separate thread about that!
