how long does it take to get out of the shell?

my chicks made hole and then stop it was about 3 hrs nothing

baby still chripping went and peeled some shell back and left it alone for 1 hour he finally got out,
how long sholud i leave them a alone before i panic

It can regularly take 48 hours.

Most hatch from pip within 24 hrs. I do not help unless they are nearly hatched out. I have had chicks get stuck and have had to help but for the most part they hatch by themselves. Sometimes a chick can have piped for hours before it hatches and another chick pip and out within minutes.

I only intervene if the chick has made a REALLY big hole and it's been hours since it made an attempt to get out of the shell.. sometimes a LARGE hole and a slow chick will dry out the membrane too much for it to hatch on it's own... even if the humidity is good
