How long does she set until she gets up and.......

One of our bantams laid 3 eggs and she was setting on them for a while but now she got up. How long will she stay off of them and so on so on??

Before she is done laying her clutch of eggs, our Jersey Black Giant hen can stay off the nest most of the day.

After she has stopped laying, and is in that broody trance, she can stay off the nest as long as 30 minutes before she is back on it. Usually, she is only off long enough to poop, preen, eat and drink. The shortest time I've seen her off the nest is 5 minutes. She will take longer if she wants a dust bath.

If this is the first time your hen has gone broody, she may have lost interest. I've seen that happen with some of our other hens.
