Daisy Mae, my Saint Bernard, pulled a bag of frozen chicken breasts off of my stove...
She ate about 5- 6 breasts ,... plus she ate both her regular meals, today and tonight... and shes not used to raw foods at ALL.
Being that shes a Saint Bernard, i'm really worrying about bloat now...
Anyone know how long after eating do symptoms show? Thanks!
And yes, i know i could just be paranoid.. but... man. thats a LOT of food for her in one sitting!

she should be fine. Just keep her quiet (no running a marathon or rough play) for 24 hours for her to process the food.

I agree with sillychicken..... She should be fine with limited activity, but if she appears to be in discomfort or starts whinning, I would get her to the vet pronto to be checked out.

My only experience with frozen meat is that they upchuck it a few hours later, so that is something else to keep an eye out for.

A friend's Irish Setter wolfed down an 8 lb roast I left defrosting on the counter and then about 4 hours later started upchucking it over the next several hours. Made me so mad that not only didn't we get any good out of the meat--neither did she! What a mess. But that's sure better than bloat!

Hope Daisy Mae is fine!

Bloat will present with the dog swallowing air or gulping water, thats the first sign that something is amiss. Often though the owners don't notice this until the dog is completely bloated up -- stomach distension. Thats what most people notice first is the dog's rib cage is twice its normal width. You can put your ear down on the abdomen and hear the gut sounds. They should be there, but not exceptionally noisey or silent. Inbetween is ok, very very loud sounds indicate the stomach and digestive tract is upset, absent sound is very very serious and can (but not always) indicate torsion. Sometimes you'll have to listen more than once over about a half hour to get a feel for what normal sounds like. Don't panic, and if there's a doubt take Daisy to the Vet for an exam and possibly an xray.

I was putting groceries away one day, and somehow missed a pound of hamburger. My dog Reno helped himself to the whole thing. I called the vet, who assured me he'd be fine, and he was. He's not a bloat prone breed though. I hope your dog is okay Redhen. They sure like to keep us on our toes, don't they!

Shouldn't be a problem. Just keep an eye on her. If you see her retching and trying to vomit with nothing coming up, that's a worrisome sign. Has she bloated before, is that why you're particularly concerned now, or just that she's a bloat-prone breed?

Hi everyone! Thanks! Shes fine today... thankfully!

No vomiting or anything! I kept her in bed with us for the night just to be safe and watch her, cause when they bloat, they go down fast....
But..yeah... shes fine. The little stinker ate our dinner though.....
