I've read a lot of info that the cornish x are ready to butcher in 6 to 8 weeks, but can't find anywhere exactly how long it takes for rhode island red and other heritage breeds to reach butchering size. Can someone please tell me.

Thanks!

Way too LOOOOONNG and too expensive considering your time and hard work to get only a fraction of meat reward that you will get.

Hello,

I do all my excess males at about 12 weeks. If they get older they start disrupting the flock and treading the hens.
If they exhibit this behavior sooner they go into the freezer sooner. Also if they get much past 15 weeks the meat starts to get tough on the males. Excess Females get sold off once they start laying larger eggs and bring about $8-$10 each.
