How long from and internal pip to an external pip

How big is the yolk sac?
They tend to all seem very weak upon hatching. Goslings, that is. Some of them lie, with their eyes closed, for hours. But they always perk up later. He'll probably be alright.

The yolk sack seems big to me. It's probably about the size of a nickle around sticking outside and then a little trail off of it. I know he's a fighter so maybe he has a chance. I took all the dirty stuff out of the bator and put in a puppy wee wee pad for him to lay on. I was hoping with the humidity lower it might help it to dry up and absorb faster. Whenever I go and check on him when he hears me he peeps a bit. I really hope he pulls through.

Sorry, wish I had checked the thread earlier to find this question but yes, the foot over the head is perfectly normal. Every single one of my ducks and geese have been positioned in the egg like that.

If it's truly an unabsorbed yolk sac, rather than a rough navel, you DON'T want it to dry up before it has a chance to absorb. This is going to sound weird but stick his bottom half, along with a warm, fairly wet, paper towel, inside of a plastic baggie and leave him inside the incubator. This will help keep the yolk moist and limit his movement so he can't tear open the sac by moving around and dragging it across the incubator floor.

I think it's a real unabsorbed yolk sack because he's still carrying around a piece of the egg with him. It does seem to have gotten quite a bit smaller though and he is feeling a bit stronger. I went ahead and upped the humidity again but I'm not sure if I should do the baggie thing with the egg still attached.

Well I just checked on him and the bulge that is on the outside has shrunk to about half it's size so I suppose that's a good sign. He's all fluffed up now but seems to be getting frustrated because he's still carrying around shell. Hopefully by morning it will be all absorbed.

Goose eggs don't really get 'locked down' like you do for chickens. You are supposed to mist them with water daily, up until they pip the outer shell. So it is very easy to see an internal pip, as long as you don't move the egg.
