How long from and internal pip to an external pip

Quote:
An internal pip is merely when the baby pierces the air cell and begins to breathe. External pips are the pips we see on the outside of the shell, when the bird begins the process of breaking through the shell.

Thanks I didnt think you could see an internal pip since the incubator is in lock down. I was confused. My 2 Seb eggs just pip right before my eyes. It was so cool. How long between pip and zip?

It really depends. I've noticed that seems to take the longest, especially for goose eggs. It could be 24-48 hours +.

Adrian's right. Seems like every goose egg I've hatched so far hasn't hatched until 30-36 hours after the pip.

Well he made a little bigger hole, and I can see a bit of his beak but he's just laying there. He is breathing
though. Is he just most likely gathering up his forces for the zip? My humidity is back up at 85% and temp has been stable at 99.5. Is he fine as long as he's breathing? Should I do something if he hasn't made anymore progress by morning? These are all probably really dumb questions but I'm just so nervous! I really want this little guy to make it!!!

Give him time. Remember, they have to hatch by themselves in the wild. If he's made another hole, things are looking good for him. That shell is very thick and takes a lot of energy to break through. He is likely gathering his energy. I'm sure he's fine.

This is what I've currently got and I'm going to try my hardest to not even look at it again tonight. I breed dogs but at least I know even during a difficult birth that I am confident in the fact that I can resuscitate a pup and my vet is always on stand by for me. This is a TOTALLY different experience. I feel completely helpless. Maybe I need to find a goose mentor like I have breeding mentors.

Well the little guy zipped about 1/4 of the way around and he has been sitting like that for about 6 hours now. His foot is wrapped over his head. Is this normal?

Congrats on him start to hatch. I have no idea about the leg thing but it doesnt sound normal.. But like I said I have no idea! How the heck did the little critter manage to do that!!

Doesn't sound normal to me. I've heard that in certain cases, improper incubation practices (there are seemingly so many mistakes we can make

) can result in something that causes the gosling's head to be between it thighs... Or its legs around its head.

But it could just be that it's a large gosling in a small egg. Check the egg for fresh blood vessels, they'll be bright red, check to make sure the membrane is not dry, and make sure he is alive... I'd suggest talking to them, they generally respond well to that... Even touching his little beak might get a response from him... Most likely, he'll make it out okay if he's already gone that far.
