How long have YOU been hatching eggs?

I've got my Silkie sitting on 3 of her eggs now and this will be my first hatch (if they hatch). I have candled them a couple of times and they sure aren't empty so I'm hoping in the next few days something will happen. How long past the hatch date should I let them go?

I've been hatching about 15 years now, but just 2 years ago, I got a Sportsman 1502.

Last year I bought chicks..this week I hatched eggs from those chicks! Im addicted.

I have a question for those that have been doing it for years and are doing such large amounts...what are you doing with all those chicks???

Good luck for you first timers. Ask lots of questions.

I hatched my first clutch of eggs in 1998. Dang I'm getting old.

I should have known better than to go and figure it out. Now I feel old. I started hatching and fell in love after our elementary school class hatched chicks in the classroom. I asked my father to buy me a incubator and he drove me to the next town where there is a store that sold them. I live in Los Angeles and we drove to Orange County where Marsh Farms was located. I actually still have that incubator and it still works.

So to answer the question, 35 years. I took breaks here and there due to life but I brought the incubators out of storage and I am now overrun by chickens.

Good luck to the newbies. It is a slippery slope from here in out.
