Hi there,
I have five goose eggs in the incubator. One has externally pipped, and I was just wondering: How long can a externally pipped gosling stay safely in the egg?
Funnily enough, my profile says I'm chirping now - my little gosling started chirping today and she has yet to stop!
Any help is appreciated!

It can take a longggg time for them to go from pip to zip. 24-48 hours is normal for water fowl. Don't be alarmed if there seems to be no progress for a few hours. As long as they doesn't seem shrink wrapped in which case they will need assistance.

That's what I thought... Thanks for clarifying. How do you tell if they're shrinkwrapped?

If the incubator is maintaining humidity, and you are not opening it shrink wrapping should not occur.

Also after hatch chicks can be shipped up to 3 days, so they are not hungry or thirsty in an egg.

If the membrane turns brow and crusty and it sounds like he's struggling, he is shrink wrapped. Now, it is normal for it to get a little dry so don't confuse that with shrink wrapping.

Dang. Like I said, this is my first time and I'm a bit of a mess. I actually didn't remove the top tray of my incubator to put the geese onto the hatching tray for more space. My view is very limited, so I can't see the membrane, and I definitely won't risk opening the incubator.
