How long should I use Bedding

My chicks are six weeks old. I have been using wood shavings (1 inch thick) for bedding. Will I always need some type of bedding for the floor of the coop or can I stop using it?

You need the bedding for several reasons...first, easier to clean usually, it gives them something softer to walk on and jump down on and in the winter it helps insulate the floor

So it is mostly a cleaning issue. It is the simple questions that stump me. Thank you
