How long should it take a Brahma chick to feather out?

My brahma chicks that I hatched out during the colder months feathered quickly - the last two batches are taking forever (it has been around 85-90 in the brooder room of the house).

Although, I am thinking it is more likely the higher humidity, because I keep them at about that temp even when it is cold outside - their brooders stay warm to that temp.

We went from about 30% humidity in the house to what has been 70% the last couple of weeks (warm days and lots of rain).

I am not putting anything damp at all in the incubators and my humidity inside of them is still at about 45% (or higher sometimes).

I think that Nature has it's own time table and since it got warm/humid out (I imagine Texas is hotter than Kentucky) they are feathering in more slowly perhaps.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Pretty bird, not sure if it's a boy or girl at this stage.

Dufus is going to be a nice looking bird, although not the brightest one in the bunch. What he lacks in smarts he makes up for in bulldozing.

His - and I'm leaning toward Roo too just because that is just the way my luck seems to run - comb is growing a bit, but does not have any real red it nor due the small wattles that have started to from. This past weekend the thermometer read 106, he was a little red in the face then, but normally no red. We are having a cold front this week it’s only suppose to get to 95 ~ 99. I’ve got the fans hooked up and running in the coop now so at least they will stay a little cooler.

I've got 6 buff brahams one of which is a roo. I noticed that yours looks redish on it's wing feathers. My roo was the only one of the 6 that was colored that way. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, just an observation. Where you at in Texas RL?

I have a 6 week old buff brahma chick that I hatched. I've been calling it a he just because that's my luck. His back is fully feathered almost, the only remaining fuzz is on his head and a little on the neck. He has a really wide comb that isn't red or pink (yet) and no wattles except for tiny flesh colored slits where the wattles will be. He has been in the bator inside under a heat lamp for most of the time, sine he's a loner. A couple weeks ago I hatched 8 more SF/EE and Brahma/EE chicks to join him...

My Brahma was the lone chick that hatched, out of a tiny golf ball sized pullet egg that had been refrigerated for a week then sat on my counter for more than a week. I put it in the bator with a couple other pullet eggs to test it out for a trial run. Since he's a lone chick, he is sooo friendly. He loves to be held and he loves to cuddle! I am almost hoping he is a roo because he will be a gentle one we can keep. (One that won't hurt my toddler...as previous roos have thought she is a threat and attack her when she tries to carry around her hens...)

I love buff brahmas! I hope your Dud(e) feathers out the rest of the way normally. Poor guy doesn't sound like he has much going for him in the brains department.

I am sure he'll feather out here soon as long as the heat doesn't slow it down. He's starting to pick up on things quicker so maybe there is hope for him yet.

RendonRoo, I live in Oak Point. It is almost at the northern tip of lake Lewisville - you are a bit southwest from me. I think Fort Worth got a lot more of that storm that rolled through then we did. That was one nasty storm.

Yea RL that was a nasty one. Fortunately it hit the north side of town and i'm on the south. We hardly got a drop on that last one.

Seems really strange to still have so much fuzz. I have 3 bantam buff brahma chicks, now about 4 wks old, all mostly feathered out except for the head. One female, 2 males.

Last year had 4 of them - 1 female, 3 males. All feathered out quickly.

Are you sure he's getting his share of food?
