Hi All

I Bought Two Pullets Last Saturday To Start My First Backyard Flock. I Bought Them From A Poultry Farmer Who Had 400 Same Age Pullets And Said He Was Getting About 30-40 Eggs A Day Out Of Them, So Mine Might Not Have Laid Their First Eggs Yet.... But If They Have How Long Should It Take For Them To Get Settled Into Their New Home And Start To Lay ???

At best, 10% of his flock was laying - if he had 400 and only gets 30-40 eggs.

Depending upon how your pullets look - red faces, red comb, fat comb (signs a pullet or hen is ready to or is laying) - your pullets could take a while.

So if you happened to get the ones who are laying, then anywhere from a day (if they have an egg in process) to a couple days - then they might stop for a bit as stress catches up and start again when they relax.

i bought 10, 1 year old hens from a guy that had 250 to start and when i got mine he had 50 left they were mixes from rhode island reds and newhampshire reds. they were all cooped up together in a 8x8 coop no run . didnt know this until i got there to pick them up. so far i have 3 0r 4 of them laying again its been 3 weeks since i got them . i get huge eggs from some of them. they look like triple yokers but there is only one yolk inside. is that strange or what. wonder what causes that. the previous owner said he was only feeding 2 coffe cans of layer mash a day to all the birds he had. so im thinking not all the birds were getting enough to produce eggs. i have feeders full 24/7 so they get plenty now. poor girls were stressed out .
