How long should the run be?

I jw how long the run should be and does it matter if you put the chicken wire under the ground or not i need to know befor i can put the chicken run up so thanks.

The run should be large enough so that every bird has about 10 square feet of space.

I would use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire at least for the bottom of it. I know it is more expensive but it is stronger with smaller holes for better protection against little things that like to dig. I put it 12-18 inches in the ground and 2ft up, then used chicken wire for the sides and top.
