Came home from work this evening to find another BCM dead (this is the 3rd, from same breeder, to die.)
2nd pullet to die, I mistakenly placed in freezer, so necropsy could not be performed.)
This one, the 3rd pullet, was alive this a.m. and dead when I got home at 8 p.m.
Put her in fridge, (vs freezer) but seeing as it's now Friday evening..........no one is avail. at NJ Dept. of Ag. until Monday.
So counting today, Sat., Sun., and Monday............she will have been dead 4 days before I might be able to
get her to them.
Is this too long before necropsy can be done?
Anyone know the protocol with this?
Thanks

I don't know how long it will take for a necropsy but maybe I/we can help keep your other chickens alive and well until you get the results. I'd really hate to see you loose more. What is happening to them? What are thee symptoms? There are a lot of good, knowledgeable people here.

I have already gone thru all the symptoms in previous posts to this forum, 'and' had a lengthy discussion with the Dept. of Ag folks, after the 2nd death occured.........without much help at all.........
Hence, we decided that if it happen 'again', to do a necropsy.

Everyone is baffled.......all other chickens are vigorous.......and the 3 deaths have all been only in my BCMs........which are
all from the same hatch and same breeder.
I just wanted to know if a chicken died sometime during the day on a Friday............would it's refrigerated body still be
appropriate for necropsy by the following Monday/Tuesday..................what is the timeline for the body to no longer be good?

Thanks for any replies............

The longer a body sits, the more the tissues degrade. Microscopically, that's not good, but if its something obvious with the naked eye, they'll still be able to find it. Just keep it refrigerated and have them try as soon as its possible.
