I compost in my chicken run/coop so take directly from there to the garden. If it's broken down well, I add it to the garden (BTE Method), otherwise I sift it through 1/2" hardware cloth to separate finished compost from the material that still needs to finish. Obviously, I still get the occasional 'fresh' bit mixed in with the rest, but I've not had issue with burning or anything leeching into vegetables that have an effect on taste or such - possibly due to it being mixed in with wood chips (which I also use for coop bedding and run cover) in the garden.
