I will be getting some day old chicks in Feb, and I am wondering about how long they will need to be in a brooder with the heat lamp.

Depending on the weather and your coop conditions about 4 to 6 weeks. I just go by how they are feathering out. Around here Feb. is not a good time of year to put young chickens in a coop if it is not heated.

I'd say about 2 months or so this time of year. I have a hard time "letting go" so i don't put them out til spring

4 to 6 weeks is the normal time frame. But not untill they are completely feathered out. [IMG]
