my hens have been laying for about a month. They are really good about laying in the nesting boxes. Can I take the fake eggs out of the boxes or should I leave them in there for a little longer?

Hi Gina! I am new to chickening this year. I left the golf balls in their nests until all the 'ladies' had started laying.......removed the golf balls about a week later. Everyone seems to remember where to lay her eggs now......enjoy your chicken-raising...its alot of fun! ~Beulah

I leave them in there always. I took them out once and one of my crazy ladies started going bananas looking all around and outside the coop. I couldnt' figure out what her trouble was. Come to find out, she was looking for the fake egg. Even after months and months, she still wouldn't lay till she found it. And she did, in an oddball place and laid a real egg on it. It wasn't even in a nest box.

So I figure, what's the harm anyway? What else am I going to do with it?
