How long to leave her in next box?

I don't think she is low in the pecking order. I don't think I ever seen anyone peck her and she is always up front to get treats. But, she seems to be the least agile and doesn't seem to be able to get up to the highest roost. She did several nights ago, but it is rare. For now she is roosting like a good little pullet!

Way late at night I turned on the light in the coop and she (Mae) was on a very low roost (one level below where she usually sleeps) and there was an egg on the coop floor. So, was she in the nest box so long because she had to lay an egg and she was having a problem? It's almost 2am here and I don't want to go out now and check the egg. I may not be able to check it in the morning before I have to leave in the AM, either.

Yep, sometimes they get stuck late to lay.

I always pull birds out of nest and put them on the roost when this happens,
have had them drop an egg right in my hand while moving them,
or on the roost board when I put them down.
Always feel a bit bad about that, but<shrug> not the end of the world.

Is she newly laying pullet?
More apt to happen then, but can happen to older birds too.

Would probably be good to pick up that egg off the floor, if at all possible.
