So I got some hens on May 4th that were under a rooster. When they came to me I put them under my welsummer roo. I rehomed him and as of the 17th of May, they have been under my Ameraucana roo. How long until they are fertile by the Ameraucana?

I hatched out some eggs from the first 3 days they were with me and they came out as faverolle look alikes (which is the roo they were under) then I just had some hatch yesterday from them that look like olive eggers (which would be from my welsummer) so I'm wondering when they will be pure Ameraucana and no longer olive eggers :)

Probably about 2-3 weeks.....4 to be absolutely certain, as long as the newest roo is getting the job done.

When a mating takes place the hen stores the sperm in a special container near where the egg starts its journey and the egg can be fertilized. That sperm can stay viable for at least two weeks and maybe over three weeks, so to be absolutely safe, wait over three weeks.

A poultry reproduction specialist said that the special container operates on a last in – first out basis. The last rooster to mate with the hen will be the father of the chick. You can try that but with my luck…….

Ok so I know they aren't fertile with the fav rooster anymore. The last chicks that hatched were welsummer dad, easter egger and Ameraucana mommas! These chicks looked like chipmunks (welsummer) but with puffy cheeks. All the faverolle crosses had 5 toes so I know they weren't from him. Now other than the olive eggers that looked like welsummers, I had these chicks hatch out of blue eggs. So olive eggers?

Depends on if a blue egg gene got passed along, you probably won't know until the pullets lay.
