I already have 2 extremely lovable RIRs who are free range and lay daily. Three weeks ago I acquired a French black tailed buff maroon (18 moths), a cuckoo Marian/cream legbar (12mths), silkie/ameraucana (3mths), and a brown leghorn (2mths). I kept them separate for 1 week. I now have to cover the nesting boxes at night because they want to sleep in them. Also, they absolutely hate being out of the pen!! I figured I wouldn't see any eggs from the younger ones until spring with winter coming on, but shouldn't the older ones be settled enough to start laying eggs??

The stress of the move will prevent ovulation for a bit. It just depends on how long they get settled. Additionally, a bird experiencing their second autumn may go into molt this time of year. The move and shorter days will likely initiate that. The young birds may start by 5-6 months regardless of time of year. Once past the winter solstice, they may start up as well as those finished molting.
