Hi everyone I’m getting a new rooster for my hybrid hens my girls are laying well at the moment despite the weather etc. An egg a day... after I first introduce them how long until the eggs they lay will be fertile? And will hybrids not sit on the eggs? And I’m not sure what breed the roo looks? Will they be able to cross breed babies? Thanks everyone

The rooster will start mating very quickly.
Depending on the length of daylight it may effect his fertility. After they mate the eggs should start to be fertile after about 5 days.

Broodiness is dependant on the hen. I have had a leghorn, black sex link, and an isa brown. Go broody but it can be rare. Not known for setting but can happen.

Your roo looks like Dominique. But not sure.

Babies should not be a problem.

Thanks for the info! I guess if they don’t incubate I could use my silkie hen in the future I’ve herd silkies are very gentle and love to incubate...

If you live in a cold climate and you want them to hatch eggs right now I wouldn't do it i let a hen sit and hatch but it's not worth all the work making sure they are good checking them several times a day the water freezing and destroying the drinkers if not emptied putting them in a separate place at night etc
