How long until they know it's home

My husband brought home a flock of 7 18-week old pullets. I already have 12 other chickens (and 5 chicks).

I set up another coop for the new flock and would like to free range them when my original flock is confined. How many days do you think it will take for them to realize that this is their home now?

They are still struggling with the concept of roosting since they weren't provided a roost at their old home. I just want to be sure they come back.

Most recommendations I have seen say a week. Some folks have it work after a few days, but a week to be sure.

Thanks! They actually roosted on their own tonight!! Now that's progress.
