Hey all. I’m a new chicken owner. My girls are just shy of 1 year old and I have one in particular who is getting pecked at her neck. I’m not noticing other pecking happening and after noticing the open wound about a week ago, it seemed to be getting better but sadly tonight it looked as if it had been opened and pecked at again. Right now it doesn’t look super bad but I’d love help to prevent this.

We have a flock block, and multiple pumpkins for pecking along with adequate food and water. There are no known mite problems or other issues going on. I’m also not seeing any one chicken in particular going after her, it seems to be randomly occurring.

I’ve seen people recommend removing her but I really don’t know how I could do that given we now have snow and our run is winterized, I just don’t have somewhere to keep her separate.

All help appreciated thank you!

It was scabbing over but was bleeding again this evening. I feed them scratch n peck layer mash along with scraps of veggies and dried meal worm a few times a week.
It could be the low protein, or boredom or chickens being jerks.
I'd slather the sore with neosporin with a little blue food coloring if possible, and find them a higher protein feed such as chick feed.
