I have a GLW that I think has gone broody. Today was her second full day of not coming out of the nesting boxes. I haven't seen her some down for food, water, or to sleep on there roosting posts. I opened the lid to pet her and she made that raptor sounding noise at me and puffed all up. Usualy they let me pet them and take the eggs out from under them no problem. With all of this combined I assume she has gone broody. I don't have any roosters so none of the eggs she is sitting on are fertile.

So my question is how long did you wait until you knew for sure your hen was broody. I would love to buy some silkie eggs to put under her but I would hate to pay for the eggs and get them shipped to me then she just snap out of it. Is it just a chance I am going to have to take?

**Update**
New question:
Another question, this weekend when one of my other hens went into the nesting boxes to lay her egg I her a comotion so I opened the lid and the chicken that had went into the nest was covered with egg. She had it on her face, back, neck, shoulders, it was all over her. My broody was just sitting there all puffed up and the other chicken was covered in egg. I shooed her out of the boxes then another hen went in there and I looked and her face was full of egg in a few moments. I have no idea what was going on in there? Could my broody of cracked there eggs or the other two hens trying to take the eggs from under her.

All the signs are right, I have two broody Cochins right now and the next day after one sitting in all day long and not coming out I knew. We play a game, every time I go by the coop, I throw them out. They cluck around and get a drink, then head right back in there. I keep telling them we can't have no babies now!!

Shes broody. put some fertile eggs under her and take any she lays. if you want more chickens. if not just keep taking her eggs and she'll quit in a couple of weeks.

Thanks... I think she is broody for sure, she is still sitting fast on the couple of eggs she is on.

I have some fertile duck eggs from my ducks I wonder if I could slip some of those under her.
