My rooster was killed by a hawk about 22 days ago. So I gave my broody hen some of the brahma eggs (he was a brahma) to hatch so that I could get another one of him.
Well, of the 6 eggs, only 1 was fertile and that one hatched on Thursday, but died.
Is it possible that after this long any of the eggs that are being laid may still be fertilized by him? If not the brahma hens...maybe the other chickens. I've heard that they can lay fertile eggs a month after mating.
Should I try again?
