I have a trio of royal palm turkeys. A while back the two hens went broody and hatched out 7 chicken chicks. They hatched out 5 turkey poults as well but I traded those for a goat.
Anyway, the chicks are now 10 weeks old and they're still a big happy family even though the chickens are starting to get a little distance from their turkey parents and are hanging around chickens more. Even the tom is still very protective of them. A couple of the chicks even sleep on the turkeys' backs still.
I was just wondering how long turkeys would normally care for a brood of poults. I was hoping they might ditch the kids and give me a few more eggs before fall. Is that unlikely?
