How long (years) do ducks produce eggs?

Was wondering how many years an Indian Runner duck will produce eggs? And, how do you tell a male Runner from a female? I emailed some one on Craig's List and they just emailed me back and it dawned on me I'm duck dumb.

But, my daughter is in need of something to eat. She is sensitive to chicken eggs and is trying real hard to not eat what she shouldn't and that's tough. She's sensitive to nearly everything and the worst things possible. Garlic and wheat is in everything.

ETA: The hens are twelve months old. Also, is there anything we should look out for?

My ducks started laying at about 6 months... i don't know how long they'll lay for... I'm wondering that too!
