10 days ago for Mother’s Day my family built a wonderful coop and now I have 7 lovely ladies from 2 different flocks - 4 black Marans (1 flock) and 2 Buffs and an Easter Egger from another. We are getting about 2-4 eggs a day. Is this normal or should we be getting more eggs per day? How long before we are up to 5-7 per day?
We are feeding 16% feed, scratch as well as scraps like lettuce and cabbage from the house and occasionally some alfalfa hay, and weeds hoed from the garden.

How old are the hens?

Black Marans I’ve read that lay 3 eggs per week.
Easter Eggers around 4 eggs per week.
Buffs lay one egg every other day.

Some of the breeds with pretty eggs lay less than the common white & brown egg layers. I don’t have any laying hens of either of those breeds so I’m basing off what I’ve read.

Those are estimates and other chicken owners may experience more or less eggs from those averages.

Are you free feeding them or giving them portioned sizes? I give my chickens 3/4 cup per bird of 16% layer crumbles. But I know some recommend free feeding but I get the same amount of eggs no matter which way I feed them personally.

ETA: got bored and did some math and with those averages and the number of hens you have, you should be getting around 24 eggs per week (give or take a few) so I think they’re laying well for their breeds.

One possibility is that because these hens are new to your home, some of them may still be dealing with the stress of moving to a new home and meeting new flockmates.

I recommend free feeding(always available) a good chicken ration,
and keeping any other foods at a minimum.

Stress of the move is definitely a factor.
Be glad you are getting any eggs!
Do you free range?
Any windows and/or vents in that coop?

Sweetwater Texas, yes to vents, and no free range range yet. But the plan is yes to free feed. Thanks for the FYI
