how loong before a chick has to eat?

broody hen, 7 eggs. hatch date today.
1 egg hatched early chick was all fluffed up by yesterday lunch. 2nd egg hatched in the night.
mum has not left the nest yet as she is waiting on the other eggs, but these two little chicks have had no food or water? how long will the last without?
tried putting a small feeder and drinker just by the door but they wont leave mums side.
any ideas?

chicks can go without food/water for 3 days. They still have nutrients from the egg in them or something and absorb that. Thats how they are able to ship day olds.

Put water and chick feed in chick-proof containers nearby.
The hen will know when to take them to it.

3 days is the rule....they are fine at this point. she will get off the nest soon enough and take them over....don't worry. but if she doesn't you might want to.
