Hi folks,

From what I've read, there is no way to entice a hen to become broody. But I sure would like to have one of my hens decide to be broody so that she can do the hard part while I tend to the farm. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this topic?

Most of my flock is dual purpose or heritage breed, so the broodiness is not (hopefully) bred out of them.

Wishing you all a happy spring filled with peeps.

Maybe try a pile of golf balls in one of the nesting boxes. Maybe the sight of a bunch of naked, cold, lonely eggs will entice some hen to brood them. And then stuff eggs under her.

Thats just a thought... lol. I had a Cochin go broody at 19 weeks once- on three golf balls. I just kept stuffing eggs under her.

The best way to get one to go broody is to want her not to. I know that for a fact.
