I've found different answers everywhere online regarding required Sq.Footage for the coop and run.

I really want to eliminate the old coop since it was kind of a thrown together one..and build a more suitable, better looking spacious one for my girls and rooster.

so total i have 8 birds right now but i also have some chicks in the brooder and would like to keep some of those. so i would like it to be big enough for at least 15 chickens.

what size should my new coop and run be?

Thanks for the help everyone, i really appreciate it!! trying to find the right info is just way too confusing!!

ETA: how many nest boxes would i need for 14 hens?

For 15 chickens, I would build the coop using at least the 4 square feet per chicken in the coop. 15 x 4 = 60 square feet inside the coop.
In the run, at least 10 square feet per. 15 x 10 = 150 square feet. The more room, the better!
Good luck, keep us posted.

I have an 8 X 10 coop and believe it or not 23 get along well in there... but I'll admit it's probably a tad crowded.

ok, so i think i got it figured out now...

Birds: 15

14 Hens & 1 Roo

Coop: 60sq. ft.

Square: 7.75' X 7.75'
Rectangular: 6' X 10'

Run: 150sq. ft.

Square: 12.25' X 12.25'
Rectangular: 12' X 13' (actually 156sq.ft.)

Is this right??

How many boxes would you suggest for 14 hens?
