How many BYC members have other avian pets?

I too love birds; in the house on the farm everywhere! Inside I have a pair of Yellow naped amazons and a small flight cage with Zebras and a pair of Button Quail for the bottom. (that is what I would recommend for you--very entertaining!)

I also have pigeons outside and the usual chickens, geese and ducks, peacocks, guineas and turkeys!

As long as so many of you have inside birds I wanted to tell you all to PLEASE throw your teflon coated pans away! I lost my 25 yo senegal, a parakeet, a canary and a cockateil when my daughter boiled a pot dry. It was a very sad day here...please do not make this mistake! Terri O

How heartbreaking...

I only have 2 teflon coated pans, and they're skillets I use only for scrambled eggs or something I'm cooking while I stand there with it. I know of too many instances where Teflon is the culprit in a beloved pet's death.

Thanks guys...it was about 6 years ago that it happened. I was so surprised that not many people knew about the dangers of Teflon--I knew that it could be harmful...unfortunately 12 year olds dont always use the best judgment! T

Thanks for letting everyone know and I'm so sorry you had to experience it. I won't have Teflon anything in my house because all it takes, like you, is one well-intended guest at the oven before you can put the warning out. If even one reader didn't know, you may have saved even just one more birdie life.

get a quaker they are so mutch fun,you never know what my rocky will say he can say anything i can,he sings nersery rymes i guess because i talk to him like hes a person, so mutch fun, janie

I may be adding a Greenwing to my flock of macaws! My aunt has one she cant keep anymore... That will make 5 macaws for me and all are male and all are different breeds including two hybrids!!! I am sad that she can no longer keep him they have a grandson living with them now and the bird is too loud!

For the most entertainment and the easiest to care for get several compatible finches in a large flight cage. All they require are food, water, clean cage, perches and toys. They do NOT want or need to be handled, merely birds to watch. And their sounds are half of the enjoyment that I get from the Zebras and Societies. Ruth

I love the finches too I don't have any anymore but I used to breed them in a large outdoor flight and yes the sounds they make is awesome! Love to hear em chatter.
